User Reviews

Users view Colemak as a valuable iOS option to fill native gaps, with some calling it the best Colemak solution for iOS and appreciating updates like Mod DH. The app is praised for delivering what some users wanted in a Colemak keyboard. However, persistent UI flaws on the floating iPad Pro keyboard, particularly incorrect key sizing, detract from usability. Symbol layer access and broader customization are noted as desired improvements, indicating the app is useful but imperfect.
Pros
  • Provides a Colemak keyboard on iOS, addressing the lack of native Colemak support.
  • Often regarded as the best option for Colemak on iOS by users.
  • App updates are appreciated, e.g., the Mod DH variant.
  • No-frills version reportedly works mostly fine for some users.
Cons
  • Floating keyboard on iPad Pro has key size/ratio issues, making typing awkward (repeated across multiple reviews).

While I was initially excited to use this keyboard, this quickly became disappointment due to it not working at all. I add/activate the keyboard through the settings app, actively choose it when typing, and it just doesn't show up at all. My devices keep switching to the default Apple keyboard. I tried removing all other keyboard and leaving the Colemak keyboard as the only available option. And when I try to type something, there's a delay on showing the keyboard, and the default Apple keyboard shows up again. I activate all 5 keyboard options and none of them actually appear for me to type with. It's always the default Apple keyboard. It doesn't work with either my phone or tablet. Same problem on both devices. I tried downloading other 3rd party keyboards to see if my devices were the problem, but Gboard, Swiftkey, Typewise and Esperanta Klavaro all worked perfectly. In fact I could even use the Colemak layout in Gboard keyboard without issue. I don't know what the issue is, but I sincerely hope it's fixed. I really was looking forward to using this since the Colemak layout isn't currently available in my iPhone or iPad (at least it's not an option for English US). Instead I'd have to use bloated app like Gboard or Swiftkey to use a Colemak keyboard.

Could use updating and continued improvments. But im just happy to have the option.

Would really like to be able to use colmak on my phone, with this but the (og) keyboard is unfortunately broken on safari. The period button appears and becomes larger than the spacebar. The tab keyboard also appears to be set incorrectly. It drops inputs pretty fequently. The no frills colemak version seems to work mostly fine, though predictive text, as well as the hold spacebar to slide back and forward through is only partially functional. (It only works with left and right.) hence my 3/5. It works! Just not the cool variants don’t, and not without some issues.
