User Reviews

Console Tycoon is praised for its addictive gameplay, sandbox versatility, and creative freedom in designing consoles. It is visually appealing and largely well-polished, with many noting a light ad load. However, players repeatedly request the ability to choose a starting year, faster progression, better balance of economy and resources, fixes for bugs and localization, and broader quality-of-life/UI improvements to streamline upgrades and navigation.
Pros
  • Addictive and engaging gameplay.
  • Sandbox mode is enjoyable and helps progress by making parts easier to obtain.
  • High creativity and customization in consoles, chips, cases, and packaging.
  • Polished presentation and visuals; improved quality over previous game.
  • Relatively light or non-intrusive ads in most feedback.
Cons
  • Starting year is locked; players want to choose a starting year from a range (e.g., 1980–2005).
  • Progression pace is slow and grindy; earning progress can feel tedious.
  • Economic balance and resource management feel off (research points scarce, pricing off, contract system issues).
  • Bugs and localization issues (bugs, crashes, translation problems) are present.
  • Quality-of-life/UI frustrations (tedious upgrades, cluttered menus, navigation; wish for better UI/UX).

Good game but I want to change my year like you do in your other games. Or more easy understanding like idk when I buy upgraded can’t find where game engines and other ones are

I love games like this. Tycoon and automation games mixed with the multifaceted nature of the act of game development is right up my alley. Obviously I knew this would, essentially, be a clone Game Dev Story/Tycoon; I’m fine with that. What I’ve found irritating after 20+ hours of play is the blatant use of AI generated assets, shallow systems regarding the actual development of the games and consoles, and the phoned in AI generated office spaces. The interview portions are especially embarrassing. Like I wouldn’t tell someone I’ve played this game. Only reason I’ve played this long is, again, because this specific gameplay loop has been done before — better — by other games that I’ve genuinely enjoyed. This game feels like a hollow Skinner box. But if you want a tappy game that’ll scratch the tycoon itch, this game does manage to pull it off despite it having the depth of a puddle. If there were some love put into creating an actual art style and animations for it, it’d be ten times more enjoyable. As is, it feels like I typed “make Game Dev Tycoon but for consoles” into ChatGPT and this is what it coded for me. Plus side: verrrrrry few ad breaks and I really respect that they aren’t egregiously long interactive rage bait ads either. Huge win for a free game. I really would love to see this dev try harder to establish some kinda art style because they have a fine mind for systems and gameplay loops.

The menu screen says continue/load. I wanted to simply start a new game and have the other one to look back on but now it’s gone.
