Review summary

User reviews highlight a mostly positive view of the app's simplicity and strong security features, including anti-peeping and easy data import from Google Authenticator, plus multiple methods to add accounts and pinning favorite ones. However, recurrent issues overshadow the positives: setup often fails or loops, codes may not be sent or accepted, and login problems persist. The pricing model is a major downside, with no true free tier and a subscription mindset seen as overpriced. Some integrations clash, and privacy concerns about camera and data access appear in several reviews.
Pros
  • Simple and solid to use.
  • Strong security features including anti-peeping/privacy protection.
  • Ability to import data from Google Authenticator.
  • Supports multiple ways to add accounts (scan codes, manual input, uploading).
  • Conveniently pins/favorites to top for quick access.
Cons
  • Setup/installation issues with loops and unresponsive screens.
  • Codes not sent or not accepted; login failures.
  • Pricing model requires a subscription; no true free option; perceived high cost.
  • Some integrations don't work as expected (e.g., Facebook, login.gov) and general usability issues.
  • Privacy concerns about camera access and data collection.

2026-06-18 Bo***** I just want to be able to use my basic authenticator when I need it, but I keep getting these ads trying to force me to buy the premium version. I don’t want the premium version. I just want to use the app as my MFA tool.

2026-05-27 Co***** Well. So every time you open the app there’s a misleading screen that gives you pro version pricing and it feels a little like having your accounts held hostage until you find the subtle skip button. Today I couldn’t find the skip button. I think they removed it? Maybe I’m blind, who knows. Anyways I switched to “Proton Authenticator” and it works. Fine. No hostage situations. Would recommend. A donation button would have been fine. I’d throw you guy 5 bucks for saving me time - but I’m not paying 70$ for a product that in no way differentiates itself from the other authenticator apps. Lastly I feel like “Auth for Google Authenticator” is a misleading name. They are in no way associated with Google best I can tell. Doesn’t inspire trust in a security app. Once again - would recommend a switch to Proton Authenticator.
