User Reviews

Overall, users find PULSEpx engaging for feedback and contests, with some beginners enjoying the experience and potential 500px integration. Recurrent issues center on fairness and monetization: payout problems and account bans, opaque DQ decisions, cheating and vote manipulation, and a lack of social or career-building features. Many question the app’s value beyond small prizes, with concerns about scammers and automated moderation eroding trust. The key positives are community engagement and contest variety; the main negatives are governance, payout reliability, and limited growth opportunities.
Pros
  • Engaging peer feedback and inspiration from a community through contests.
  • Opportunity to win real prizes across multiple categories.
  • Fun, accessible photo challenges that can inspire learning for beginners.
  • Works with 500px, enabling easy integration/import from a portfolio.
Cons
  • Unclear or unfair moderation leading to DQ decisions without explanation and automated misflagging.
  • Payout issues: accounts banned when redeeming winnings and inconsistent enforcement.
  • Low prize value and the prizes are often split among many winners, limiting earnings.
  • Cheating and manipulation concerns: fake submissions, vote manipulation, and scammers eroding trust.
  • Lack of social features and limited growth opportunities (no comments, saves, or portfolio links).

EDIT: I have lowered the rating for this app. I feel this app doesn’t support beginners whatsoever and actually has taken exp points for not doing good in a contest. I have had a photo DQ’ed without explanation (I followed guidelines) while other photos get voted above mine and don’t follow guidelines. Sadly this app promotes over-produced photos and minimizes amateur photographers IMO This app allows for you to enter your pics and go up against others. This is enjoyable but without spending money it’s hard to enter into many of the contests. The functionality of the app is good overall but voting for other pics is not intuitive enough but overall the app works well **Disclaimer I rarely give 5 stars. There is usually room to improve.**

I’ve been using this app since the beginning. At first, withdrawals worked fine — I provided RAW files as requested, and my first payout went through. But now, it’s clear the app bans accounts when you try to withdraw your winnings. My first account was blocked after redemption for “AI content” so, I decided that it because of Photoshop generative retouch and created a new account to continue using the app. That account worked fine until I tried to ask for redemption again — it was immediately banned as a “duplicate account,” even though I read the rules and there is no prohibition on having a second account. It feels like the app simply doesn’t want to pay users. My previous review disappeared without any response. Extremely frustrating and unfair.
