The new update is quite disappointing. The first major complaint is the new videos. The videos are from one angle and show you the throw twice, once full speed and once in slow motion. This doesn’t allow someone studying to see the correct gripping, stepping into the throw, or how to create the off balance. We need the old videos from Kodokan to show us the throws from multiple angles and the focus on the hands and feet positioning. The second complaint is the search function. You can type 1-3 letters in and then it pops up a list. You might still have a list of 20 techniques to go through. Allow the user to type in and hit enter to search. The only redeeming quality of the app is the games to help you learn the vocabulary.

5 stars before the update. 2 stars now. The change in videos from Kodokan videos, which showed multiple angles of technically correct techniques, is the main issue. The current videos are not Kodokan, are not always Kodokan accurate in technical application, and only show one angle. Not useful for students or education, only brief review. Kodokan techniques were removed to, presumably, make way for more BJJ styled techniques. Techniques were recategorized, which was inconvenient, but neither here nor there in totality and functionality. However, the search function allows only 1-3 letters typed, depending on speed, before trying to auto-guess and blocking the keyboard and search bar. As an instructor, I only recommend this app for the price, free, and the quizzes. Little use with the videos for young judoka anymore. 2 stars ONLY for the quizzes and study material.
