Before the independence, the British Govt. has implemented the scheme of construction of Rest Houses at Hill stations and beautiful sites in Maharashtra. However after independence, many development programmes were undertaken by Maharashtra Government which were public oriented. For implementation of various schemes it became essential to provide accommodation to various Govt. Officers and public representatives.

Some of the villages are still at remote places and accommodation facility is not available. Taking this fact into consideration the Public Works Department has constructed Rest Houses at all District /Taluka places, also at Hill Stations, Pilgrim Centres and Tourist places. Now in Maharashtra, Rest House facility is available to Govt. Officers, Ministers, Diplomats and very important persons for Govt. work.

PRIORITY LIST FOR RESERVATION For accommodation of Rest Houses, reservation priority will be as mentioned below :

• Central / State Govt's Guest / VIP/ Minister / High Court Judges / State Minister and similar officials.
• The Members of Legislative Committees.
• Public representatives (M .Ps. / M.L.As.)
• State Govt. officers and staff on duty.
• Central Govt. officers and staff on duty.
• Other State Govt. officers and staff on duty.
• Ex.M.L.As /Ex.M.Ps / Freedom Fighters / Retired Govt. Officers/ Statt Acredeiled.
• Acredeiled card holder journalists.
• Private persons.
