User Reviews

Users praise LaneTrax for delivering actionable bowling analytics alongside video, enabling objective comparisons and steady progress. Many find the statistics and insights valuable and feel it’s a game-changing tool for serious bowlers. However, recurring concerns center on unreliable lane detection (often requiring manual retries or fails to auto-redetect), unclear or pricey subscription costs, and a challenging setup process. Rev-rate accuracy and UI limitations also come up. Overall, the app is highly valued for its concept and data, but reliability and cost remain key hurdles.
Pros
  • Provides numerical stats alongside video for objective shot analysis.
  • Helps track progress and reduces guesswork, aiding improvements.
  • Accurate and valuable statistics; considered a must-have for serious bowlers.
  • Compelling concept with strong data focus and supportive developers.
Cons
  • Lane detection is finicky and not reliably automatic, with frequent need to retry or manual re-detection.
  • Pricing/subscription is unclear or perceived as expensive.
  • Onboarding/setup can be tricky and setup issues / server errors hinder initial use.
  • Rev rate tracking is inconsistent or not reliably accurate.

Good app overall, I have seen and learned on what to improve with my bowling and where to throw with my current arsenal of bowling balls.

The app is great. As someone who has bowled for a short while casually and is now starting to take it more seriously, the fact that I can be provided some actual numerical stats along side video is extremely useful. Being able to look at my good shots as a baseline and to then see the difference in a shot that I *thought* was good but didn't quite do what I expected has helped me improve quite a bit in the few times I've already used it. Gave 4/5 stars because I have 2 suggestions that would make this app absolutely incredible. First is that the lane detection can be finicky and doesn't try to automatically re-detect the lane. My tripod wasn't tall enough to sit on the ground so I had it on the table and the waiter placing a water on the table caused it to shake just enough that it lost the lane and I missed a few shots (including one where the 5 pin somehow hit the 8 then spun onto where the 4 was without falling). The phone slightly shaking and losing the lane by itself is fine, but when i selected the lane finder the lane was still perfectly within the view and i just had to press the button again. It would be great if there was an option we could enable where it would automatically try to find the lane again if possible. The other suggestion would be if we could have the app record constantly when having it track every shot and we could have a button to save the last minute or so of footage in case the shot wasn't tracked. There were a few times when that happened to me, either because I lined up all the way to the gutter to get a ton of hook or because I was slightly off balance on release and stepped to the side and blocked the shot for a second. Being able to see as much of those shots as possible from a video would still be helpful even if it doesn't show stats for the throw.
