Features & Capabilities

StopTheMadness Pro is a web browser extension that stops websites from hijacking your browser UI and protects your privacy across major browsers. It isn’t an ad blocker—a feature-rich toolkit from indie developer Jeff Johnson, with cross-device support via iCloud sync.

Key features include UI protection to preserve text selection, copy, drag-and-drop, and keyboard shortcuts; privacy tools such as removing tracking parameters and AMP, blocking beacons, and hiding invasive prompts; plus customization options like custom CSS/JS, site-specific edits, and the ability to run scripts. It supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari on macOS, and Safari on iOS/iPadOS, with settings syncing across devices.

User Reviews

StopTheMadness Pro is widely praised for blocking autoplay and intrusive content while offering deep customization, cross‑device syncing, strong accessibility support, and active developer updates. However, users report occasional site breakage on a few sites, conflicts with other blockers, and a learning curve for default settings.
Pros
  • Stops autoplay videos and intrusive media across sites.
  • Highly configurable with granular controls to tailor browsing.
  • Cross-device and cross-browser syncing and compatibility (Mac, iPhone, Firefox, Safari).
  • Responsive developer with frequent updates and quick issue resolution.
  • Strong accessibility support including VoiceOver on Safari.
Cons
  • Occasional site breakage or crashes on certain sites (e.g., Twitch VODs, Reddit scrolling, Nintendo site loops).
  • Default settings can break sites and are not very user-friendly / hard to tune.
  • Conflicts with other blockers or extensions causing loading issues (e.g., AdGuard conflicts).
  • Autoplay blocking can sometimes disrupt legitimate playback on certain sites.
Recent reviews
I like the idea of this extension. The user interface could be cleaner. It could be easier to disable the extension on the current website with one click rather than first manually creating a profile. The menus and options are so extensive that it can be hard to know where things are and what’s enabled. Still, a helpful extension.

Great app! Maybe we could get an option to return the dislike count?

One-time payment, reliable, and regularly maintained with updates. The same app also works on both my phone and iPad
