User Reviews

Uplock is an iCloud-first companion to Apple Passwords with a polished UI and strong security, addressing missing data types and notes. It’s praised for privacy, native feel, and developer responsiveness. Common downsides include pricing concerns, stability bugs, missing autofill/web features, limited support resources, and branding/search confusion. Overall, it’s seen as a valuable add-on rather than a standalone password manager, with room for feature and support improvements.
Pros
  • iCloud/on-device storage with no separate servers, emphasizing privacy and cross-device access
  • great UI/UX and a native, Apple-like feel
  • fills missing features for Apple Passwords (notes, images, attachments, IDs) and serves as a valuable complement
  • strong security (encryption, no separate account required) and secure notes or documents
  • developer responsiveness and ongoing improvements (accessible fixes and updates)
Cons
  • pricing and subscription model concerns, with unclear or non-one-time purchase options
  • stability issues and bugs, including crashes (e.g., when pasting long text)
  • feature gaps (web form autofill, credit card autofill, Safari extension) and limitations vs a full password manager
  • limited or unclear support/resources (perceived lack of help pages, tutorials, or easy contact)
  • branding/search confusion from renaming and related searchability issues (Access vs Uplock)

Crazy pricing for what is essentially an Apple-services wrapper. The app is a collection of Apple platform and infrastructure features assembled into a product. Built with SwiftUI and relies on Apple’s iCloud for encrypted storage and sync. The UI/UX isn’t poor but isn’t spectacular either. No custom frontend, not custom backend, no independent service layer; $90 for what? They are apps out there with real recurring costs; live data, APIs, servers, alerts, and ongoing infrastructure that costs as much.

So it’s a secure text app that has premade forms. It’s a thing that’s missing from the Passwords app. It’s attractive and presumably well made. Beyond that, no functionality. They say it does have autofill, and I have that turned on, but it has not offered to autofill anything for me. Sorry, but I’m not putting these nice folks on my personal payroll for a simple utility that just stores text. I’m also not paying $50 for a one-time license. It would need to have some useful functionality to justify that cost. I’m okay using the free five record limit until Apple Sherlocks it, or until I catch the one-time license at half off. It’s a sweet little app, but it ought to be a no-brainer cost.

Fantastic compliment to Apple Passwords! Is just what I’ve been looking for to replace our current password manager. Looking forward to additional features that allow more customization.
