Review summary

Guardian Feast offers chef-driven recipes and appealing visuals, with useful filters and the option to hide meat recipes. Reviewers consistently praise the quality and variety of the recipes. However, recurring issues hinder the experience: UK-centric measurements with poor US equivalents; pricing and access model viewed as expensive or misleading; inconsistent app behavior including slow performance, flaky search results, and failed deep links; readability and print options are limited; occasional content accuracy concerns. Improvements in measurement options, navigation, and printing, plus clarified pricing would align the app with user expectations.
Pros
  • Access to recipes from renowned chefs
  • Delicious, unique, and fresh recipes
  • Visually appealing with big photos and a clear layout
  • Dietary filters and customization options (e.g., gluten/dairy-free, hide meat recipes)
  • UK/US measurement translation popup/help with ingredient names
Cons
  • UK-centric measurements with difficult/unclear US conversions
  • Subscription pricing and access model perceived as expensive or misleading
  • Inconsistent app behavior including slow performance, flaky search results, and broken deep links
  • Limited readability and printing options (text too small; cannot print)
  • Occasional content accuracy or search/browse issues (e.g., mislabeling recipes)

2026-01-31 Gr***** I love the recipes, by many of my favorite chefs. The only problem is that all the measurements are suited to UK users. 250g of eggs? How many is that, and what size? 10g of bicarbonate of soda? 275 g of oil for a cake? I tried my best to convert everything but even so. And yes, I used your conversion page, but it’s difficult, incomplete, and I think it’s inaccurate. Especially for baking, the amounts are off, resulting in less than terrific cakes. Several simply haven’t baked at all in the center. Any chance you could tweak the app so users could choose the appropriate measurements - UK or US?

2025-11-22 Dg***** Excited to have access to recipes from these well known chefs in an app. But (1) when I have a link in an article or email to a Guardian recipe it opens the feast app but not to the recipe, I then have to search. (2) would love to see ratings and comments from readers. That is something I love about the NYT Cooking.

2025-11-12 Il***** The app is a welcome addition for anyone interested in British recipes. One unfortunate aspect is how the app does not allow recipes to fit your screen, so the writing is too small to read. I’m using an a iPad Pro in landscape mode, and text is too small to be easily legible. Printing a recipe is not possible from the app, either. (Who wants to bring expensive electronic equipment into the kitchen where accidents can and do happen. Hopefully the Guardian will fix this poor engineering in an update, otherwise, I’ll eschew the app for the Guardian’s webpage.

2025-09-12 ze***** I already pay for The Guardian, and now you’re trying to gouge me for an extra subscription at an abusive price? I’ll likely cancel my Guardian subscription altogether, I don’t give my money to companies that take advantage of me.

2025-08-30 No***** Opened the app looking for the first time. Searched for a beef stew recipe. The first listing was one made with pork. Nothing listed as beef stew. Already disappointed, as few of the other recipes would be meals I would make.

2025-02-03 Tr***** I really appreciate all the great recipes in Guardian Feast. Thank you. I recommend these recipes to people who want interesting, updated, delicious makes. I have a favor to ask you… Can you have a button to click that would change the recipes from grams and milliliters into cups, an ounces ? I know this is a provincial request. And I know it will be good for my brain to learn to work with grams and metric. But it sure would make it more likely than I would create your beautiful food.

2025-01-23 mi***** Another app that demands a subscription to use it. It’s a cookbook. It costs $40 to subscribe for a year. I can buy a really nice cookbook for that and own it for life. I can buy the same cookbook at a used bookstore for $5 - $10 and own it for life. The point is that subscription books like this are a rip off and never worth subscribing to. Especially at $40 a year. No thanks, deleted, heading to my local bookstore now. Byeeeeeee.
