Easy Sail Trim

I found EST while doing a random search for a different kind of sailing app. I was immediately impressed with how it takes a, what a beginner sailor often feels, complex system and simply explains what the various things on a boat does, how adjusting them affects the boat, and even offers suggestions on positioning based on the wind speed and point of sail. I am an ASA certified instructor and I will recommend this app to anyone I teach. The developer has a list of new features planned that has been excited to see how it gets better than it already is. There are some descriptions that could be enhanced to describe how changing the position of various levers increases or decreases the amount of wind the boat could use. The descriptions are there but it can take some interpretation. For example the Jib Traveler text says moving the fairlead forward is helpful in light winds. True! I believe the wording could include what happens if one moves the blocks back. I also encourage tweaking the words so that they simply describe the effect on the boat instead of saying a particular setting is used in light or (as the case may be) heavy winds. For new sailors, it may make it easier to understand that moving the blocks closer to the wind increases how much of it the sail can use (increasing the power) while moving them farther away from the wind can decrease the power the boat. Some UI tweaks to show the TWS and AWS numbers while using the slider could help a bit, too. But this is fantastic app and I hope it continues to add more features soon! I recommend this app to anyone interested in learning or improving their sailing skills. I’m a supporter and will tip as often as I can to help keep the momentum going!!
