Features & Capabilities

Overview: SpatialCamera enables spatial photo and video capture on iPhone from iPhone Xs onward, storing moments in 3D and enabling playback on XR headsets. It can convert spatial media to other 3D formats and even transform 2D media into spatial formats on-device.

What you get: Spatial Capture supports spatial photos, up to 4K HDR on select devices, time-lapse, lock screen launch on iOS 18, and a camera control button on the iPhone 16 series. Image/Video Transcoding includes batch conversions between SBS/HOU and spatial formats, plus 2D-to-spatial conversion powered by an on-device AI model. A separate Vision Pro-capable companion, SpatialVideos, is available for visionOS.

User Reviews

Users praise the app for capturing spatial/3D video and viewing on VR headsets, with a polished UI and broad device support. However, repeated crashes, unstable 4K performance, and misalignment of lens spacing degrade experiences. Device support lists are inconsistent, and many requests center on clearer tutorials and guidance. Stabilization issues for handheld use and some platform-specific quirks persist, but newer iPhone models show better results and there is value in transcoding third-party 3D photos for Vision/VR use.
Pros
  • Enables recording spatial/3D video on iPhone with good results and headset viewing (e.g., MetaQuest).
  • Professional-looking, attractive UI.
  • Works across several iPhone models (e.g., iPhone 14 Pro, 15 Pro Max) with multiple modes.
  • Provides a transcoding/export path to produce usable 3D content for VR devices.
  • Can convert third-party 3D photos (Qoocam Ego) into Apple spatial format.
Cons
  • Crashes and stability issues during capture, transcoding, or 4K recording.
  • Lens spacing/overlap misalignment that breaks stereo registration, especially across updates.
  • 4K performance is laggy or crash-prone on some devices.
  • Device compatibility/support lists are inaccurate or incomplete (e.g., unsupported devices, mis-listed models).
  • Lack of tutorials/documentation on workflows, transcoding options, and settings.

Overall this app works great to record spatial/3D video with my iPhone 11. Videos look good to me in a MetaQuest 2 headset. Video recording with a stable device looks good in 4K. If device is handheld, 1080 with stabilization is better. A tutorial would help improve the app. For example, after capturing video in the app, you then need to transcode it before it will display as 3D video in a headset like a MetaQuest.

1, Color scale breaks when 4K HDR on Sunny day sky. 2, No 3D glass review 3, even so much expensive than spatially

I know some devices (like mine) with diagonal cameras are not great with this app, but the dev clearly explains that. It still works tho and it’s fun to play around with. Very professional looking app. Hopefully a work-around for higher resolution & less cropping can be found.
