User Reviews
I stumbled across the BlockNotes app when I was I was looking for an alternative to the built in Notes app. And after I found out that it allowed you to take notes in HTML, I was intrigued and downloaded it. Turns out, it works for my specific use, but it is missing some features that I would need to use it for note taking.
First off, is the media. It’s great that this app supports photo, audio and video attachments. I appreciate that. However, the way how the app stores these attachments seems to prevent proper saving. For some reason, any media added to a note becomes a 'blob:' link, which is points to a 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 storage place for the attachment. Or, I’m simpler terms, any attachments added will 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 when the app is closed and re-opened. Why is this the case? Why can’t media be stored in folder associated with the unique note ID?
For writing text, the app works fine. It supports bold, italic, links, highlighting, inline code, tags, a highlighter, sub/super scripts, and links. However, a notable absence is underline. I am unsure why this is the case, but if I were to copy and paste in rich text from Apple Notes into this app, it would transfer the majority of the formatting data, except for underline, blockquotes, text colors, and proprietary attachments. However, for my use case, these limitations make it difficult to use this app in the same way I would use the native notes app.
Another comment I want to make is about the interface and reading. For some reason, the app wants you to type '/' to choose a block on every new line. And you can’t hide that message. If I want to use blank lines in my notes, they will be hard to read because of this message. Could there perhaps be an option to hide this message?
My only other critique is that the toolbar could be less cluttered and easier to use, and perhaps formatting options like bold and italic could be placed above the keyboard. However, other than these suggestions, I believe that 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 and would love to see these features added!

This is the best thing since simplenote! I have a ton of notes in different apps that make it so hard to own your data (easy backups) while keeping a seamless flow.
The developer(s) deserve massive praise for the polished user interface and the way the entire app just gets out of your way and lets you take notes quickly and effectively.
I have taken a ton of notes in the app … and it just works. It is so fast and well thought out - there is a lot of simplicity and power tucked into the way it is organized, and I have fallen in love with the workflow I have developed very quickly. This is REALLY amazing app and highly recommend you try Blocknotes!
