2025-08-30 Ji***** I have been using ROAM for over two years. Hands down Roam is the single best investment for monitoring your boat, especially when you’re not there. I currently monitor: Primary bilge pump 2nd bilge alarm - ROAM Float switch Freezer / refrigerator combo temperature House battery bank voltage Ambient temperature and humidity AC Shorepower GPS location Anchor alarm - Watch from iPhone during your onshore excursion What I NO LONGER worry about: 1. If my main bilge pump triggers unusually. 2. If the shore-power shuts off and my battery bank dies (I run my DC refrigerator 24/7). 3. If frozen food spoils because my DC freezer stops working. 4. If my boat moves without me knowing. 5. Regular onsite inspection / monitoring is not practical - our marina in not local to us. 6. When anchoring will our boat be there when we return from going onshore for the day. 7. Is it floating / flooded 8. Are the batteries dead. 9. Is the food spoiled. 10. Is there a fire. 11. Is there a high change of mold forming 12. What is happening during the winter on the hard. 13. Having a “portable” anchor alarm -monitoring my anchoring remotely. What I look forward to: 1. Receiving reliable text and emails when an issue has triggered. 2. The overall peace of mind that “It really does work.” 3. The single best value of any boat system installed. 4. Thinking of other ways to expand the system. 5. I can “plan” my reaction to an alarm, because I know exactly when the issue started. 6. Planning a trip to the boat or asking for help from someone local. 7. Is an urgent or casual trip needed. 8. When I return to my boat, I don’t worry about find any issues which can ruin a vacation or a bank account. 9. Monitoring during winter storage (solar panel provides trickle power). 10. Recommending ROAM when a conversation pops up. 11. Surprisingly most boaters don’t know or think a system like ROAM is available. 12. Usually think a system is too complicated or too expensive. Alarms - REAL LIFE 1. Realizing that in heavy rain, the bilge pump does go off. Clarified that there are a few sources water gets into the boat. 2. Local marina power loss, was able to notify marina to restore power. 3. High voltage alarm during shore-power charging. Forgot that our wind generator was left on. Wind became very strong and generated unusual higher than normal voltage. This reminded me to stop the wind-vane. 4. Refrigerator / Freezer alarm. Accidentally turned off main panel switch for the Refrigerator / Freezer. 5. Monitored very low temperatures during winter, which justified the cost of higher quality antifreeze. 6. Monitored battery system over the winter. 7. Anchor & System Alarms - Just checking the boat’s anchor position (and systems) when going out for the day on the dinghy / excursions. 8. Peace of mind - worth every penny.
