Radiacode's iOS app is feature-rich and intuitive with solid hardware integration and GPS mapping, making it great for hobbyists. It benefits from active development and strong device support. However, stability issues, unit synchronization problems between app and device, and occasional data persistence and background-mapping reliability problems are recurring pain points. Addressing startup crashes, improving unit consistency, and ensuring track preservation would greatly enhance the overall experience while retaining the app's value for radiation tracking and analysis.

Pros

Easy to use and intuitive with strong data exploration and visualization (maps, spectrum, tracks).
Solid hardware integration with Radiacode and reliable Bluetooth pairing/communication when the system is working.
GPS tracking and mapping features for field data collection.
Active development with responsive support and frequent updates.
Great value for hobbyists and a compelling companion to the Radiacode hardware.

Cons

Frequent stability issues: repeated crashes and startup failures prevent use on multiple devices/OS versions.
Unit synchronization problems: device and app units do not always match (REM vs Sv and CPM vs CPS) and cannot be reliably synced.
Data persistence concerns: tracks can be lost or deleted and export options are limited or missing.
Mapping/background operation reliability: mapping can crash and background location tracking can stop after a few minutes.

Recent reviews

I have went as far as factory resetting my iPhone 14 Pro Max and setting up with a new iCloud and the app crashes on splash screen. This has been a known problem for 2 months minimum. Posted on July 1st 2026, I will update my review if this gets resolved.

It’s a great app, allows you to examine the data in every conceivable way. A few feature requests from an iOS user, would be great to be able to scale the data on the map view, a single hotspot and all of the other data points turn green. If it was plotted along an exponential curve, that might be better. But at least a way to see nuances in a way that’s less binary. Also, would be spectacular to have the clicks be able to play through headphones, and instead of a “click”, have it be a tone who’s frequency is proportional to the energy of the received measurement. That is the say, lower tones for low energy higher tones for high energy. This would allow a user to get a more qualitative understanding of what radiation sources might be nearby.
