Quiver: Rare Conversations Apple

Quiver: Rare Conversations

A social media with purpose

Features & Capabilities

Quiver helps you learn about yourself and learn about your friends. Explore rare conversations - from fun and trivial quirks about your friends to deep and profound experiences.

How Quiver works:

- Every day, a new Quiver Prompt is released. It is a question or a statement designed to initiate interesting conversations.

- You cannot see other users’ answers until you yourself answer the prompt.
- Once you answer the day’s prompt, you enter into a feed of all prompt responses. You can sort the feed between those you follow and the most liked posts.
- Engage with other people’s responses, and have conversations about topics you otherwise wouldn’t be talking about
- Relive your past thoughts and opinions with the archive feature, and see if you’ve changed your mind about anything.
- Gain verification badges with consistent use.

The app is seen as unique and healthier than typical social media, encouraging journaling and real-life discussion. However, several reviewers report reliability issues: account deletion failures, UI bugs, and nonfunctional support channels, which temper the overall experience. The concept is highly liked, but technical and support problems need attention.

5 stars. This app is wonderful. It’s so nice to share thoughts with open minded people from around the world. I look forward to answering the prompt each morning and reading and commenting on everyone else’s if I chose to. There are some very funny people on this app but most of all everyone is so kind. There is no hateful arguing like you see on other social media sites. Just good old fashion fun!

TLDR: The app has frustrating bugs with the user interface (scrolling, editing, notifications, account deletion, etc.). And conceptually, the concept is an uncomfortable attempt at forced intimacy with strangers. Further discussion: The delete account button doesn't work. It took several emails to finally get confirmation that my account was deleted. Quiver itself is time consuming without reciprocal benefit. The daily requests for personal info are invasive. Why would I reveal details about my daily life & childhood to strangers, and then read about theirs? To get a badge for daily use? This isn't therapy, but several of the daily prompts seemed triggering to at least a few users. Developing genuine connections is stymied by the lack of direct messages, so there's sharing without potential follow up. This would probably work as a way to stay connected with friends & family. (And there are many of Nick Alfieri's inner circle on the app.) But I would rather work on strengthening connections with people already in my life than spending precious time sharing stories with strangers whom I'll never truly know.
