Features & Capabilities

Squell is a casual spelling game that challenges your vocabulary and your spatial reasoning. Imagine Boggle got a little too friendly with a Rubik's cube and you've got Squell. Rearrange a grid of letters to spell words. How many moves you make matters, but get good and keep the game going to rack up tons of points.

Squell games are controlled by how many moves you make, so you play it at your own pace. It's a great game to put down and come back to later, since all progress is saved on your device as you play and you can always review the words you've already spelled. It works offline, so it's great on a plane, a train, or in that waiting room with no cell service.

Squell is simple to play, but with plenty of strategies to uncover and master, you'll come back to it again and again!

User Reviews

Squell is praised for its challenging yet addictive word puzzles, clean UI, quick learning curve, and brain-boosting mix of vocabulary and spatial strategy. Players enjoy fast, smooth gameplay and satisfying feedback as they form words. The most frequent downside is the lack of a built-in leaderboard or persistent score tracking across sessions. Some players also suggest expanded word-validation features, but overall sentiment is highly positive and players repeatedly come back for more.
Pros
  • Challenging and addictive gameplay that keeps players coming back.
  • Simple, clean UI with intuitive design.
  • Easy to jump in and start, with progressively harder levels.
  • Brain-engaging experience that blends vocabulary with spatial/strategic thinking.
  • Satisfying feedback when words are formed and strong replay value.
Cons
  • No built-in leaderboard or high-score tracking across games.

I love the game! It’s challenging, and different. But when using different word checking resources, there is little help with Squell. And there is a chance you know an existing word that isn’t counted towards what the game recognizes as being a possibility. I suggest at least expanded options, one of which shows what words are actually possible on the board. And for fun, it could show what these words mean. But again, all only as an option for those just getting into the game or trying to expand their vocabulary.
