User Reviews

Overall, reviewers praise iCalc for a polished UI and a broad, capable feature set (scientific, graphing, finance) with helpful problem-by-problem explanations. But most repeats center on the monetization model: no free trial, recurring or steep upfront fees, and AI/photo solving locked behind a premium tier. Several accuse promotional lifetimes and rating prompts of deception, and a few report crashes or blocking upgrade prompts. In short, great functionality and usability are offset by aggressive paywalls and inconsistent access to core features.
Pros
  • Polished UI and broad feature set for a calculator, including scientific, graphing, and finance capabilities.
  • Easy to use with intuitive navigation and helpful step-by-step explanations that guide solving problems.
  • AI and photo-based solving features are appealing capabilities when accessible.
  • High overall usability and design, with reviewers calling it one of the best calculator apps.
  • Educational tool that can help with math learning and demonstrations, useful for students.
Cons
  • Paywall model with no free trial and expensive ongoing or lifetime fees.
  • Core features like AI/photo solving are locked behind the premium tier, reducing value for free users.
  • Aggressive onboarding: prompts to rate the app at launch and persistent upgrade prompts that block use.
  • Allegations of misleading lifetime offers and promotion tactics intended to boost ratings.
  • Stability issues: crashes or sudden exits on startup.

You have to pay to use this app, no trial, no free use. They want you to pay either weekly, monthly or $19.99 lifetime, why not just charge to download the app?

Why let users download the app for free, but not let them get a their first look at it, forcing them to agree to pay a weekly fee in order to get the opportunity to evaluate if it fits their use case? To make money off the people who forget to, or don’t realize they have to, cancel the subscription. There’s no other reasonable conclusion. Other apps offer a free trial period that doesn’t leave them on the hook at the end, and iCalc could, as well, but has decided otherwise.

The upgrade to premium message wouldn't go away and blocked the calculator, making it useless
