Produced on behalf of Mayo County Council, the Slievemore Heritage Trail app brings you on a journey through the lives of a once-thriving island community. Located in the shadow of Slievemore mountain on Achill Island, what is now known as the Deserted Village was once home to a cluster of related families. Life was tough, so each family depended on each other to survive, until the Great Famine of 1845 spelled the end of village life. Listen to the accounts of local people who knew the village well and learn about the folklore associated with Slievemore. See how the villagers lived by exploring a 3D re-creation of a typical cottage they would have lived in.
