Features & Capabilities

■Overview■ Nordic Angle is a smartphone application developed in collaboration with Athletic Training Laboratory at Waseda University (instructed by Professor Norikazu Hirose) and S-CADE. Co., Ltd. AI automatically detects landmarks at the hip, knee, and ankle joints. Based on the detected landmarks, it calculates the break-point angle and the hip flexion angle at the break-point during the Nordic hamstring exercise. A smaller break-point angle indicates that the upper body can lean further forward, suggesting stronger eccentric hamstring strength. Therefore, regular measurement of the break-point angle suggests that a smaller value is associated with a lower risk of hamstring injury.

■How to use■

  1. The device is placed about 3 m to the left and right of the person, with the participant centered in the frame.
  2. When the person is ready, record a video at the setting (60 fps).
  3. The person leans forward as slowly as possible from a kneeling position, and then leans forward as far as possible.
  4. Please trim it short from the initial and final parts of the motion of the person.
  5. Open Nordic Angle and select a video.
  6. The analysis zone will be restricted to the participant only, excluding the partner holding the participant's ankles.

■Notes■ ・The entire body of the person should be shown. ・Loose-fitting clothing will reduce detection accuracy.
