Review summary

Users like Archer for meeting people and dating or finding friends, but consistent complaints center on a map‑first design that leaks location, widespread fake profiles, chat UI bugs, frequent glitches after updates, and sudden account bans, all contributing to a sense of instability and safety concerns despite occasional positive social experiences.
Pros
  • Good for meeting people and chatting, with potential to make friends or go on dates.
  • Some users report meaningful social results, including coffee dates and friendships.
  • The app is described as simple and easy to use.
Cons
  • Map-based main interface exposes or emphasizes location, creating privacy concerns and dissatisfaction with the old profile‑list layout.
  • High prevalence of fake profiles and scammers, leading to distrust and poor match quality.
  • Communication is hindered by UI issues, such as blocked text input and off‑app messaging prompts.
  • Frequent glitches and updates render the app unreliable or unusable at times.
  • Accounts are sometimes banned or closed without clear warnings or explanations.

2026-05-04 xR***** Archer seemed really promising at first. I loved the idea of being able to see the location of the people I was chatting with, making sure they were actually in my city, and being able to see their face upfront. All of that felt exciting—especially for a free app—and it gave the impression that Archer was trying to bring more transparency and safety to gay dating. At launch, it honestly felt like it could be something different and refreshing. Unfortunately, that excitement didn’t last long. Every single match I’ve made has either been a bot or someone who clearly wasn’t located anywhere near me, despite what the app claimed. I’ve run into multiple situations where people used fake photos, chatted with me briefly, then blocked me—only to reappear later with the same picture, a new name, a different age, and a different location. This keeps happening, which makes it feel like there’s zero real verification or accountability. That’s incredibly frustrating and, more importantly, concerning from a safety and security standpoint. This app was marketed as something that would revolutionize gay dating and hookups, but over the past few months I honestly haven’t reaped a single benefit from using it. Ironically, I’ve had better luck on Facebook Dating, which says a lot. Maybe Archer will improve in the future if they add real verification and crack down on fake accounts, but as it stands right now, it feels like a waste of time—and quite frankly, a potential breach of user security and safety. One star.
