User Reviews

Ghost Detective is lauded for its engaging ghost-story premise, immersive New Orleans setting, jazzy soundtrack, and varied puzzles, with solid replay value. However, it suffers from stability and progression issues: crashes and load failures, strict time limits with grindy progression, inconsistent saving, and recurring connectivity errors. Bugs like disappearing coins worsen frustration. Object naming slips and lack of accessibility options also surface. Overall, strong concept and atmosphere are marred by technical and pacing problems.
Pros
  • Engaging story premise: a ghost detective solving your own murder with a strong narrative hook.
  • Atmospheric New Orleans setting that adds culture and mood to the gameplay.
  • Jazz-influenced soundtrack and detective vibe that enhances immersion.
  • Varied hidden-object puzzles with multiple mechanics and scene diversity.
  • Good replay value with multiple cases and ongoing exploration that keeps players engaged.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and loading failures, including getting stuck on startup or in loops after login.
  • Time limits are too strict and the progression feels grindy, requiring repeated plays to obtain clues or spectral binders.
  • Progress often isn’t saved, causing players to redo completed parts and lose progress.
  • Internet connectivity errors reported despite an active connection, leading to disruptions and false offline messages.
  • Coins/points disappearing or being deducted without being replaced, impacting progression and rewards.

Game has been fine but it has stopped saving and I have to redo several parts I’ve completed.

The allotted time isn’t enough. If you find everything with time left it should go to the next search. There are more items to find in the second and third searches. This is why I gave it 3 stars.

The last week or so in March 2026, this game abruptly stopped working. Despite an a app update a few days ago (about April 1), the same problem persists: Every time I open the app, it seems to start normally, my Netflix gamer name flashes on screen in the corner (as usual), then an error message would pop up about being unable to connect to the network/to check my Internet connection. The problem wasn't on my end as other apps and Safari had no problem connecting the my Internet network. Hard restarting the app and my iPad didn't help. Before the most recent update, I would have given this game about 4 stars. I'm not a huge fan of "Hidden Object" games, but this is different enough from what I usually come across that I'm willing to stick with it. Overall, not the best game out there, but it is interesting enough to play a little each day. It avoids the tendency in"Hidden Object" games to make scenes a crowded closet or store full of detailed objects. The storyline of being a ghost solving your own murder is a bit predictable, but this at least adds a different twist to the genre. The best part of Ghost Detective is probably the way it uses its setting of New Orleans to explore the culture of the city.
