BSL signers and English-speaking communities

With this ever-growing, child-friendly 3000+ word dictionary of BSL signs and ‘CoSInEs’. (1). It gives BSL signers and English language users alike an unprecedented, uniquely convenient and flexible resource to support their interactions.

BSL signers Can search to find the meaning of English words as they read or see them said. Where there is not an exact BSL sign, a CoSInE is offered, which gives the meaning of that word using a consistent development of the BSL root sign.

English speakers Can search for words to • share with BSL signers • develop their sign vocabulary when learning BSL through instructed courses. (2).

1. CoSInEs (Core Signs for Inclusive Education) have been developed to provide BSL sign-based markers for all aspects of the written English language. They accompany BSL signs when SSE (Sign Supported English) is being used and/or English text is being read or written.

2. BSL cannot be learned through an App. It is the precious and beautiful living language of the d/Deaf with specific non-manual features and its own unique grammar, far beyond what is demonstrated in this or any other App. English speakers are encouraged to develop full BSL skills through certificated providers in addition to using this App to support their connections
