Features & Capabilities

Dawnbeat Sampler fuses hardware-inspired samplers with a modern multi-touch workflow. Tap and swipe pads to craft natural patterns, while Dawnbeat is always recording so you can play and experiment without stopping to hit record. Memorizer lets you pull exact moments after you have played, selecting events from a live capture.

From multi-touch pads with per-pad mute/solo and re-triggering to BRIIKS, a four-bus mixer with internal and AUv3 effects, MIDI IN/OUT, and a pattern sequencer with piano editor, Dawnbeat covers both live performance and studio work. It includes a built-in sample browser with six drum kit libraries and one bass library, auto-slicer for fast chopping, selectable sample rates (HI-FI/LO-FI), and export options for movies, images, and animated GIFs.

User Reviews

Dawnbeat is a feature-rich mobile sampler with a playful UI, strong AUv3 integration and the BRIIKS sequencing feature that many users praise. However, it is plagued by crashes and instability, especially with AUv3 hosting and sample import, and experiences audio dropouts when the screen locks or headphones are unplugged. The learning curve and cluttered UI, plus missing controls like choke groups and a master stop, are common complaints. The developer appears active and responsive, addressing bugs and adding features; users want more stability and a smoother workflow.
Pros
  • AUv3 hosting/integration allows internal hosting of AUv3 synths/effects and use as a player/FX
  • BRIIKS sequencing feature enables quick chopping, time-stretching, and live patterning
  • Playful, design-forward UI with easy sample browsing and intuitive pad assignment
  • Active development with regular updates and responsiveness from the developer
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and stability issues (crashes during import, startup, or while using AUv3)
  • Audio dropouts or stops triggered by screen lock, headphone changes, or app backgrounding
  • UI/UX feels cluttered or overly complex with a steep learning curve and missing core controls (e.g., choke groups, master stop)
  • AUv3-related instability when using multiple AUv3 instances inside the app

Dawnbeat makes me wonder if there is a need for hardware samplers. The features of this sampler rival hardware versions especially considering portability. Dawnbeat is also easy on the eyes. The user interface and color customization make it easy to adjust for your visual needs. Give it a try. The ease of use is a win for me.

App has the potential to be dope but it’s broken. Lose all my work every time I reopen app and sequencer doesn’t work. Better as an instrument than an actual standalone app.
