Review summary

Gloomy Tales combines striking visuals and a long, puzzle-rich Halloween adventure with an engaging mood, but players report major bugs that impede enjoyment: corkscrew/false-bottom issues, unresponsive touch controls, looping sound glitches, and occasional freezes, plus tedious piñata segments. The core game is attractive and enjoyable when bugs are resolved, and its visuals are a standout strength.
Pros
  • Gorgeous, colorful graphics and visuals.
  • Lengthy, content-rich gameplay with many puzzles and tasks.
  • Engaging Halloween atmosphere and mood.
  • Overall enjoyable and appealing experience for mystery puzzle fans.
Cons
  • Corkscrew/false-bottom puzzles often fail to work, blocking progression.
  • Touchscreen interactions are unresponsive or require many taps.
  • Persistent sound glitches and looping noises (bees, doors) across scenes.
  • General glitches, crashes, or freezes that hinder progression.
  • Spider piñata interactions can be tedious or nonfunctional.

2023-02-09 GG***** I got to the festival entrance and am trying to break the spider piñata. Is it supposed to work by how fast I keep hitting it? There are no instructions.

2022-10-29 TA***** I like the game but the sound effects are irritating, buzzing bees that you can still hear after you leave the scene, kids yelling all just too much. Also, right now I am at a standstill as I cannot get the scrapper to work on the moss outside Felix house. I’ve tried over 50 times… major disappointment

2022-10-25 ly***** Did the developer change, you ask? No. There is a new figurehead, but Oleg is still Founder and CEO. I guess he wants someone else to blame for all the fatal errors, lol. Update: I wrote a scathing email to Oleg. The corkscrew and the door issue has been resolved and the game has been updated. The Dream Team Director of Quality Assurance has completed the game with no more glitches, except of course a touchscreen sensitivity issue throughout, I’m happy to report. Note to Dusty: you can play Mystical Riddles and complete it. Once I wrote to Oleg , all of the issues were fixed, and you can give the ring to the dog in the bonus chapter. Note to Bend: this is NOT BigFish, it’s Domini. There haven’t been any games distributed by BigFish on iOS in years. I would also suggest you play a game entirely before you review. I notice that you automatically give Domini 5 stars for merely releasing a game. Ridiculous! This game certainly does not merit 5 stars, having been released with a fatal error! I just wanted all gamers to know that the game has been repaired, once again thanks to me. Now if only Oleg would listen to me and hire his quality assurance department back! 🙄 Finally he realized that’s he’s losing revenue so he hired ONE person to run the entire quality assurance department. Expect more problems. On to the game. First the positive aspects, of which there were few. The graphics were bright and colorful, the game was lengthy, and there were a plethora of tasks to accomplish. Unfortunately the rest of my comments will be negative. First we started off with a fatal error, yet again! Then we have the extremely original storyline concerning an evil entity stealing souls for power. Enough already. Let’s move on to inventory usage. I am sick and tired of: digging, removing glass shards, fanning steam and smoke, using coins as screwdrivers, inserting a cork on a sharp tip, and I could keep going but I won’t do so. The lack of touchscreen sensitivity on the gameplay interface was appalling. Several mini-games were so difficult to manipulate them that I skipped them. At times the collectibles indicator circles did not light up when an item was available. You could barely discern the collectibles indicator on the map. You will notice I lowered my rating. There was another fatal error at the very end of the bonus chapter. The portion created to save your character’s sister disappeared after I formulated it, so the bonus chapter could not be completed. Without all of the aforementioned issues, this game would have, and should have been enjoyable to play. Instead it was drudgery. I am relieved that some of you have realized you are playing the EXACT game over and over, time and again, and paying a whopping $8.99 to do so. For those of you rating such a glitchy and unoriginal game (with a fatal error) at a 5 star level, I’m happy to see you pay through the nose. It doesn’t cost me a dime so enjoy wasting money. Maybe Oleg needs to fire his entire creative team and all of his level designers, hire new people, and release games that are novel and innovative. Oh, that’s right. He has those games, which are EIPIX, and refuses to release them. Now there was a developer with interesting storylines, unusual inventory usage and fabulous gameplay. But Oleg is afraid of the Serbian game mechanics ( which at their worst were better than Domini’s glitches) and the games did not fare well on Android. It would have been different on iOS. iOS has me, and there is nobody who has brought in more revenue for our developers than I have! Sadly I do not have a counterpart on Android. I killed myself to get those games for Oleg and to give Mirko Topalski and EIPIX a legacy. Those games should have been ported and released! By the way, I am working on another deal, hopefully one that will be appreciated this time and will give us more games. I am being generous with two stars, since I completed 99% of the game. Happy Halloween!

2022-10-23 H1***** I enjoyed this game. I waited until the problems were fixed. I agree with a previous reviewer, the background sounds were too loud and most annoying. I played the game on mute. The words are written out when characters speak. Thank you to the developers for an interesting game.
