Features & Capabilities

ScriptureDirect is a Chrome extension that offers a unique interlinear Greek-English New Testament linked to the Greek text. It isn’t a separate published book; you simply touch a Greek word to see its English translation, and vice versa. Tap again to reveal all possible meanings with the correct one in context, and you can browse all meanings without needing to read Greek.

Meanings come from the modern and scholarly New Testament Greek-English Lexicon based on Semantic Domains, published by the United Bible Societies. The dictionary lists meanings in 93 domains for precise analysis. The editor Prof. Johannes Louw and Dr. Bennie Wolvaardt contributed to ScriptureDirect. This tool is ideal for students of New Testament Greek. For questions or support, visit www.scripturedirect.com

User Reviews

ScriptureDirect is a free, user-friendly Greek interlinear tool praised for its word-by-word access and quick lookup to a built-in lexicon, with cross-device support. It offers up-to-date critical Greek text and is valued for study and ministry use. Recurrent concerns center on translation bias and occasional bugs after updates.
Pros
  • Free to use and widely praised as a no-cost interlinear Bible resource.
  • Strong Greek interlinear with word-by-word access and direct links to lexical resources (e.g., Louw-Nida); tap a word to see its English gloss.
  • Easy to use with a simple UI and broad device compatibility (works on iPhone, iPad, and MacBook).
  • Uses up-to-date Greek text (UBS/Nestle-Aland) for modern scholarship.
Cons
  • Perceived doctrinal or translation bias in the English renderings (dispensational/evangelical leanings).
  • Bugs and stability issues reported after updates (inability to scroll, intermittent functionality).

Not based on the Received Text from Antioch but rather on the corrupt text from Alexandria. Revelation 22:14 is telltale.

This app has been amazing to use in my own personal Bible study, but also as a minister, this app has been a great quick resource to double check an English translation Bible to make sure my teaching lines up with the original Greek and is not based solely on an English construction perhaps not quite evident in the original texts. The only apps I use more than this one is email and maps! I can’t believe it’s free! Thanks so very much Scripture Direct!
