User Reviews

Overall, The Inner World on iOS is praised for its charming story, unique art, strong voice acting, and thoughtful, hint-assisted puzzles. The lack of in-app purchases and the bundled sequel are positives, and the calm, clock-free pacing helps the experience. However, players repeatedly report bugs and crashes, unreliable input/controls, save and inventory glitches, and late-game blockers. Puzzles can sometimes feel illogical, though hints help. The game shines in atmosphere and writing but remains plagued by persistent stability issues.
Pros
  • Well-crafted, charming story with memorable characters and emotional moments.
  • Beautiful, unique art style with strong music and voice acting; immersive atmosphere.
  • Thoughtful, non-timed puzzles with an effective hint system; satisfying point-and-click gameplay.
  • No in-app purchases; bundle includes the sequel; good value for fans.
  • Calm, unhurried gameplay that lets you think at your own pace.
Cons
  • Frequent bugs and crashes, including save and inventory glitches that block progress.
  • Unresponsive touch controls and fiddly inventory interactions that hinder puzzle solving.
  • End-game progression blockers due to bugs that can prevent finishing late chapters.
  • Puzzles can be illogical or unclear at times, requiring hints and patience.
  • Bugs and stability issues have persisted for years with slow or no fixes from the developers.

After originally experiencing The Inner World on PC many years ago, I was happily surprised to see it on the App Store. If you're a fan of well-crafted stories, I can't recommend this game enough. The land and citizens of Asposia will become dear to you, you'll adore Robert and Laura (and Peck!). This game has charm, wit, and even poignancy; it tackles some real topics, but in an easygoing way that focuses on the characters' personalities and resilience, keeping the mood upbeat. This game does have some moon logic- you'll need to combine some items that make no sense in real life- but there's an excellent hint system, don't be afraid to use it! The sequel has an equally wonderful story, and the puzzles are a lot more intuitive. Both the original and the sequel were a smooth play on IOS, apart from the occasional crash, which is no big deal with quick load times and frequent autosaves.

The controls are a pita. The art is unique and pretty cool. The story is o.k.

I just played The Inner World again, after many years, and it is still creative and truly one off the best in the genre. It is a game that despite conflict, feels warm and hopeful. There are just too many wars and conflict in the real world for me, at least, to seek that out as entertainment. It left me smiling, it's not easy and so I recommend it
