User Reviews

The On Cinema Film Guide is loved for its comprehensive, entertaining film analyses and quirky extras that appeal to fans of Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington. Many users praise its value and entertainment factor. However, frequent stability issues, lack of updates for newer iOS versions, and a perception that the reviews are jokey or random limit its practicality for some users.
Pros
  • Comprehensive, in‑depth film reviews covering a wide range of films.
  • Entertaining, meta‑humor experience with Tim & Gregg’s On Cinema vibe.
  • Quirky extras (clock, Constitution, popcorn recipe) add novelty and engagement.
  • Great value for money; affordable and highly praised by users.
  • Strong appeal to movie buffs and fans of On Cinema.
Cons
  • Stability and compatibility issues on older iOS versions (crashes, missing audio).
  • Lack of updates; app feels outdated or unsupported for newer iOS versions.
  • Reviews can come across as random or jokey rather than traditional film criticism.
  • Overall content quality can feel inconsistent or not what some users expect from a film guide.

I made the popcorn recipe in the app. It wasn’t listed but I used ghee as the base oil and it came out great. I’m an Act II guy myself but wow get rid of the microwave and try your stove! It tasted like I was back in front of the silver screen at my favorite local theater. I was able to read the Constitution of the United States while eating the popcorn which was a nice bonus, but I would give this app 4 stars because they didn’t include the amendments. The popcorn is really great though and there’s also some movie reviews and suggestions so they earned that star back. Now that I think of it I could have watched a movie while eating the popcorn, instead of reading the constitution. Maybe in the future they’ll add watching the movies they suggest through the app. Or maybe just add a notification “Hey don’t forget to watch a movie!” when you follow the popcorn recipe. Logical next step. But yeah it seems to be mainly about movies so popcorn and constitution enjoyers- buyer beware. But who doesn’t like movies? 5 stars.
