User Reviews

Overall, users praise HPR's app for its clean design, live streaming and on-demand access, and strong local programming. However, many point to reliability and UX issues: frequent stops, disruptive sponsor messages, overly sensitive links, and lack of track details. Driveway Moments accessibility and alignment between live radio and app also come up. Addressing stability, reducing ad interruptions, and clarifying track information would greatly improve the experience.
Pros
  • Easy-to-use, well-designed app with a convenient bottom stream/player
  • Strong live listening plus on-demand/archive access, including the ability to share content
  • Great for driving and on-the-go listening with seamless cross-device continuity
  • Broad, locally-focused content (news, classical, Hawaiian flavor) with diverse hosts
  • Works well as a helpful supplement to the radio experience
Cons
  • Frequent playback interruptions: app stops after 10–15 minutes and requires restarting
  • Sponsor/ad interruptions interrupt programming frequently
  • Links are overly sensitive, causing accidental taps/navigation
  • Incomplete 'currently playing' info (no song titles shown) on the playback bar
  • Driveway Moments content is hard to access or missing, making missed segments difficult to recover

Love NPR, and love how organized and well-designed this app is. The links are WAY too sensitive though. Like, you’re trying to scroll, and it’s almost impossible not to open something you don’t mean to open. Otherwise, beautiful app and beautiful content. Mahalo.

The app itself works well, if you just want to listen to music or read the news on the app. However, if you want to find out what is currently being played on the radio by HPR, it’s almost impossible to find out. The music-playing bar at the bottom says “currently playing” and give us the name of the program, but does not give the title of the song, which, unless you want to use a music-identifying app, is kind of irrelevant.
