User Reviews

Chord! is repeatedly praised as a deep, powerful tool for chords, scales, and theory, with the reverse-chord search feature standing out for ear training and idea generation. Many users rely on it daily or for years to store songs and explore voicings across instruments. The app is viewed as highly educational and valuable for both beginners and advanced players. However, the learning curve is steep and onboarding could be clearer. Some users report platform issues (iCloud sync, MacOS compatibility) and concerns about price/value. Overall, strong value with room for onboarding and reliability improvements.
Pros
  • Powerful, feature-rich tool for chords, scales, and theory that many users find essential.
  • Reverse search feature is a standout for ear training and idea generation.
  • Long-term, reliable utility for learning, practicing, and organizing songs and chords.
  • Appeals to a wide range of players, from beginners to advanced, for theory and arrangement work.
Cons
  • Steep learning curve and an obtuse UI; onboarding and documentation could be clearer.
  • Platform issues such as iCloud sync problems and MacOS compatibility concerns.
  • Price/value concerns; some reviewers feel the app is not great for the price.

The UI takes getting used to, but once you figure it out, it is quite powerful and better than most guitar apps out there. My only wishes are: 1. that you could get the actual notes instead of just fret dots on the chord collection and songwriting modules instead of having to export to pdf or single chord drill downs just to see the notes 2. Chord collections let you play the sound of the chords for ear training instead of having to put them in a song first. 3. that export also retained the scale degree colors. I still gave it 5 stars because again it still beats most apps, but these things keep it from being perfect.

This App has thought me so much about theory, I also keep track of all of my works in it, helps me with new ideas, it is also a fantastic tool for analyzing pieces and so much more. It takes a little to get the best of it, but it’s worth learning it. It always presents a few bugs here and there very randomly, but it is definitely the best app of its kind by far! I’ve been using it for over 5 years now and it is a must have for me.
