User Reviews

TechPort bundles many tech outlets into a clean, fast interface with handy reading features, but users repeatedly note limited feed customization, paywalls, and ad-related frustrations. Pros include broad coverage, intuitive design, dark/reader modes, and an affordable ad-free option. Cons center on suppressing sources, filtering paywalled content, ad persistence, maintenance/compatibility issues, and outdated sources. Overall, a strong concept hampered by content controls and upkeep.
Pros
  • Broad coverage of major tech outlets in one app.
  • Clean, intuitive UI with fast navigation and multiple views (list/thumbnail) and favorites.
  • Built-in dark mode and reader mode for comfortable reading.
  • Affordable in-app option to remove ads.
  • Consolidates tech news well and can reduce the need for multiple apps.
Cons
  • Cannot remove or suppress individual sources; limited feed customization leads to unwanted sources (e.g., Wired) in the feed.
  • Paywalled content appears in the feed and cannot be filtered out.
  • Ads persist after purchasing ad removal; occasional ad quality concerns and reappearing ads after updates.
  • Maintenance/compatibility concerns: not clearly updated for newer iOS versions and widget support is lacking.
  • Some sources are dead or outdated and initial favorite setup can be laborious.

4th star if you can delete Wired. It's like a breath of stink.

I wanted a tech focused news feed and this on comes close. The problem is there is no way to curate the feeds to try and get rid of biased or political content or context locked behind a pay-wall. (Can Wired really be considered a tech publisher at this point?!). With better feed management, this would be a great program.
