User Reviews

LibriVox offers a vast, free library of public-domain titles read by volunteers, with a broad range of classics and some professionally produced works. Reviewers praise the easy navigation and the quality, varied narrations. The biggest recurring complaints are about advertising: free users face intrusive ads, including pre-rolls, banners, and loud pop-ups, and even paying users report ads in some cases. Users also report occasional reliability issues, such as collections disappearing or progress tracking glitches, and some frustration with perceived monetization changes. Overall, a strong resource for classic literature despite the drawbacks.
Pros
  • Huge catalog of public domain titles (with some professionally released items) available for free.
  • High-quality volunteer readers with a wide variety of voices and narrations.
  • Free to use with an optional paid plan to remove ads.
  • Easy-to-navigate interface with support for downloading and listening on mobile.
  • Excellent source of classic literature and educational content.
Cons
  • Intrusive ads in the free version, including pre-rolls, banners, and loud full-screen pop-ups.
  • Ad-free purchases do not always prevent ads for some users.
  • Reliability issues like collections disappearing or progress tracking glitches.
  • App changes and monetization efforts that some users feel degrade the experience.
  • Ads interrupt listening between chapters or pages.

Since my genre tends to be 19th c English literature, Libravox never fails to supply a steady stream of novels in the public domain that interest me. Whether on a road trip or fighting insomnia, the option to have period drama read to me is fabulous. There are some talented readers Who bring these stories to life though a few are hard to hear. Ultimately I want to join the reader team and see if I can faithfully portray each character with panache.

We can do a lot of things these days, go a lot of places and read a myriad of Books “Electronically” without ever having to Touch Paper…, …but of a Most Wonderful element in these Busy Times is one’s ability to choose from a myriad of Titles from LibriVox, so as to Plug-In, Tune-Out and Work-Out one’s at-hand Job… (…and to do so REPEATEDLY with those titles one would rather LIVE-OUT than READ-WITHIN…). THANK YOU LIBRIVOX (Book-Aloud)❣️
