User Reviews

Users repeatedly praise RaceJoy for real-time tracking, map-based progress, and the ability to cheer and stay connected with runners from afar. Many reviews note how easy it is to use and how quickly race results or finish times are shared. However, a substantial number report reliability problems and inconsistent performance: incorrect mile markers, missing race starts, spotty updates, occasional crashes, and overall instability. Others find the race search/setup overly complex and the UI confusing with limited progress visibility. These reliability and usability gaps overshadow otherwise valuable spectator features.
Pros
  • Real-time tracking of runners with a map view, letting you follow progress across multiple locations.
  • Cheering and virtual spectator features let family and friends encourage runners remotely.
  • User-friendly interface and easy navigation before and after the race.
  • Timely updates and finish-time notifications (e-mailed after race) and race results posted promptly.
  • Being able to stay connected and feel like you’re part of the race experience from afar.
Cons
  • Unreliable tracking experience: miles can be out of order, start times may not show, and updates can be spotty or fail.
  • Difficult race search and setup; finding the race can be hard and managing participation for runners and spectators is overly complex.
  • Crashes or stops working on newer devices; app instability.
  • Spectator features can be inconsistent or intrusive (cheers not delivering reliably; audio ads reading aloud interfere with music).
  • Poor UI/UX and limited progress visibility (hard to see year progress, unclear results, and overall clumsy design).

It doesn’t really give you tracking info from race gates. It requires the runner to carry a phone and only gives you data from the phone. So if they don’t have their phone on them it thinks they haven’t started. And the splits and results are completely useless.

I’ve run many marathons and the instructions to use (turn it on when I cross the start line? Isn’t that what the bib is for?), the inability to pull up results in a timely fashion, and inaccuracy of my own results were quite discouraging. Terrible app.

If RaceJoy is the app being used to track runners at your goal marathon, then don’t expect it to work.
