VOSC is best understood as a visual analogue of a traditional sound synthesizer. The medium of synthesis, rather than sound waves, is a vast quantity of on screen particles. By manipulating the size, shape, and frequency of the oscillators, an endless variety of moving patterns and textures can be created.

A primary mechanism at work in VOSC is the phenomenon of visual harmony as explored by the computer graphics pioneer and visual artist John Whitney in the mid 20th century. The oscillators of VOSC operate in accordance with Whitney's principle of differential motion, giving rise to harmonic resonances as their frequencies move across whole ratios.

When tuning the four visual oscillators I sometimes find a sweet spot. It’s as though I’ve come along a visual harmonic especially when using lower LFO speeds. A great audio analogy is a polyrhythm. Would love be able to set numerically specific frequencies/parameters. Brilliant work and thank you. *When possible increase the number of patch slots and it would be super if you could provide a share button so we can open up the exact same patch on another device.

I’m very surprised that there are no reviews of this yet… This app is phenomenal. It’s got some amazingly trance-inducing capabilities. Very configurable; one can start from scratch, develop personalized patterns, and there are incredible presets that can be modified according to taste. Foreground and background colors can be changed. Dot density and shape can be changed. Getting screenshots of the patterning is a great thing to do, because you can add the resulting video as layers in something like LumaFusion, After Effects, Imaginando VS, etc. Very highly recommended!
