VoiceTra

VoiceTra is a speech translation app that converts spoken words into translations across 33 languages. It uses high-precision speech recognition, translation, and speech synthesis technologies developed by NICT, and outputs the results as synthesized speech. The translation direction can be instantly swapped, enabling two people speaking different languages to communicate on a single device. Text input is also available for languages without speech support.

Ideal for travel-related conversations—transport, shopping, hotels, and sightseeing—and even disaster prevention, VoiceTra helps users check translation accuracy in context. While primarily designed for real-time speaking, users should note that an internet connection is required and that servers are set up for research purposes; data may be used to improve translation technologies.
