User Reviews

Reviewers praise the Philly Inquirer app for its quality journalism and useful features like resume reading, noting that the experience is improving. However, the most mentioned issues are technical: the app accumulates large cache/memory and is hard to control; updates restrict landscape reading on iPad; and post-update stability is inconsistent with freezes and lags.
Pros
  • High-quality journalism and trusted writers (including appreciation for Will Bunch's column).
  • Resume reading feature is appreciated and helps you pick up where you left off.
  • App and website experience is improving over time, with readers noting better presentation and access to news.
Cons
  • Excessive cache/storage usage and growing memory footprint with little effective way to limit or clear it.
  • Recent updates lock landscape orientation and force portrait mode, hampering reading on iPad and other devices.
  • Unreliable performance after updates, including unresponsiveness, freezes, and inconsistent e-version behavior.

In the newspaper view, some articles do not open at all, or are very slow to open, with only a spinning circle appearing. Those same articles open fine on the website so it seems like an app problem.

For the 2nd time in the past 12 months I've subscribed to your online paper. And for the 2nd time I am unable to access any articles, as I'm told I've reached my limit of free access, even though I am logged in. This is incredibly frustrating. I am paying for access and can't access.

When will the “listen to article” feature be added to the app? Seems like a total miss. Why would I use the app if the convenience is on the website? As for the listen article feature on the website, for long articles, the page eventually refreshes, stopping the reader feature. And there’s no way to pick up where it left off. I hope you solve that glitch too. Keep up the good work making the news consumption experience better and better. From the high-quality writers to the improving app and website experience, it’s the reason why I keep my subscription.
