User Reviews

Verbum is praised for its deep, Catholic-focused library and powerful cross-referencing, highlighting, and quick access to source texts. It’s valued for building a personal library and affordable subscription. However, users cite frustrating navigation after UI updates, a less intuitive search, performance issues (lag and highlighting crashes), expensive store content, and some platform stability differences. Overall, its strengths in depth and accessibility compete with notable UX and stability drawbacks.
Pros
  • Rich, cross-linked Catholic study library with commentaries, interlinears, maps, and Latin texts, plus quick pop-up references.
  • Easy reading and highlighting, with chapters opening where you left off.
  • Powerful cross-reference feature that pops up source texts and links to related church documents.
  • Builds a personal library with a wide volume of resources and an affordable subscription with a monthly free book.
  • Long-standing reliability and strong support from users who have used Verbum for years.
Cons
  • Frustrating navigation and a recent UI overhaul that requires many clicks to reach a purchased book and removed or obtrusive dashboard features.
  • Search functionality and general UX feel unintuitive after updates, with results that are not helpful.
  • Performance issues: lag, instability, and highlighting crashes, especially on iOS.
  • Store content is very expensive and the subscription changes are unwelcome to some users.
  • Cross-device inconsistencies and stability differences (iOS lags behind Android).

Would be 5 stars if text to speech was a feature.

Verbum is part of my daily life. As a priest I am consulting it constantly to understand the scriptures more deeply. It makes accessing the original languages and ancient commentaries as easy as making a few clicks. The notes feature allows me to mark up scriptures and other important books so that I can remember and build on more than a decade of daily use. The collection of Catholic and other Christian resources is invaluable for research and writing. The cross-platform accessibility gives me access in the most convenient and useful ways. Verbum is a game changer.
