User Reviews

X-Plane Flight Simulator on iOS offers strong realism and hours of gameplay but is marred by a heavy monetization scheme, ownership/token access problems, and stability/online issues. The core sim feels solid and compelling for enthusiasts, but subscription costs, content gating, and frequent bugs/online glitches heavily impact the user experience.
Pros
  • Realistic flight simulation with detailed aircraft (e.g., the 737) and flight dynamics.
  • Engaging, hours-long gameplay with depth for flight enthusiasts.
  • No ads in the app (as noted by at least one reviewer).
Cons
  • Pay-to-play: heavy subscription model gating core features and content, with monthly fees.
  • Purchased content can become inaccessible or require repurchase due to ownership/subscription token issues.
  • Frequent bugs and crashes, plus subscription/token errors that disrupt play.
  • Very limited free content (only a couple of free planes/airports) pushing users toward paid purchases.
  • Online multiplayer reliability issues, including other players appearing as ghosts and sync problems.

I love this! There are tutorials online on the x-plane website and YouTube for learning how to do cold starts, fly, and use GPS FMS and autopilots for all HD aircraft. I hope Laminar research adds more aircraft as HD. You can fly huge scenic routes anywhere. Great for practice and learning/exploring on the go. Love it!

I liked the game to start so I tried to get the “premium” option to unlock everything so I could just fly around and enjoy the game without having to worry about all the pop ups. After doing so the game started to crash and say I was not subscribed, however my bank had a charge of $49.99 attached to my account for the app that was purchased. Seemed fishy so I closed the app and reopened it, no good. Even went to great lanes to make sure my phone was up-to-date as well as the app and not to mention restarting my phone. Quite honestly, this is ridiculous as no other app works this way. I still ran into the same problem so my way of dealing with it was to cancel the subscription and delete the app entirely. If they fix this issue, I will very gladly pay the subscription fee per year and change my review, but as of right now it screams SCAM.

First of all, let me say that the graphics and realism are outstanding, but the thing is that you have to pay real money for the planes (the test flights are only 1 minute) except for the Cessna 172 and the CIRRUSJET SF50, but these aren’t good. You also have to pay for global scenery, which makes the flight seem actually realistic. I am pointing this out because some people can’t pay for these things, and they were really looking forward to realistic flying around the world or using the fighters. Another thing people would want the airliners and fighters for are the challenges. The challenges for the airliners and fighters seemed really fun, but you needed to own the plane for those, and the challenges for the Cessna 172 (there are only 2 of these) aren’t really fun, so if you aren’t going to give all the planes for free, at least don’t require people owning the planes for their challenges. I hope will fix these problems to make the game better, and then everybody will have the time they want.
