User Reviews

Reviews largely praise Yomu as a fast, distraction-free EPUB reader with excellent iCloud syncing, deep customization, and strong OPDS support for external catalogs. Many users favor the one-time purchase model over subscriptions. A few recurring threads involve requested UI tweaks (per-book spacing, bookmark behavior) and some debate over pricing/feature gating. Overall, it’s regarded as the best independent reader for iOS/iPadOS with solid data portability and cross-device syncing.
Pros
  • Cloud sync across devices (iCloud) with easy import/export.
  • Extensive customization: fonts, colors (including hex), margins, themes, and per-book defaults.
  • OPDS support and easy connection to external catalogs (including Dropbox option).
  • Fast, distraction-free performance with a clean UI.
  • One-time payment with no ongoing subscription fee.

I have spent a lot of time testing out different ebook readers. Throughout this time, I have tried maybe over 30+ apps. After switching back-and-forth through these various apps, Yomu is the app that I kept returning to. This app has allowed me to use a lot of features that I love, not to mention it is still being updated. One thing I also like is that there is no subscription model for this app, instead there is a one time fee that is very inexpensive. The pro version of Yomu allows me to have as many books as I would like, not to mention separate them into personalized folders. I have an instance of Kavita running on one of my personal NAS. The OPDS support is amazing in Yomu as it only takes a few seconds for all of my books to be downloaded. I wasn’t the biggest on reading just because I don’t like the physical feel of paper anymore, however, Yomu has assisted me and reading more books than I thought possible at this phase in my life. If you don’t buy the pro version of the app, it still does not hinder your use of the app itself. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to increase their ability to read books on an iOS device. I would also strongly recommend the pro version since your books are saved to the cloud with seamless syncing. Not sure if pro is needed for that, however, it is certainly worth it as this will help the developers continue to improve upon this wonderful app. Just like Panels is the best comic reader I’ve ever used on an iOS device Yomu is hands-down the best book reader on an iOS device.

I feel lucky to have discovered Yomu many years ago. It’s one of only a few app purchases I didn’t feel any regret after buying and I’ve never had to look for an alternative reader since.
