Flame kick werewolves, perform thrilling acrobatic stunts, and run a trillion dollar mining company in Riverman Media’s combat-action masterpiece!

#2 Best-reviewed iOS game of 2015 - Metacritic.com

From the creators of the award-winning “Pizza Vs. Skeletons” comes The Executive: a fast-paced, cinematic, martial arts action game designed from the ground up for iPhone and iPad. You are the CEO of a company that has been infiltrated by werewolves, and it’s your job to save your employees, and eventually the entire city, from their dastardly schemes.

OUR PROMISE TO YOU: No ads. No getting suckered into buying more stuff later. The whole game, for one price, for all updates, forever.

The Executive combines a high-speed combat system, timing-based running and platforming, 120 hand-crafted levels, a full inventory of moves and upgrades, and a simple mining company simulation for earning money, all into one cohesive experience. The fighting engine evokes a cross between Street Fighter II and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, with controls designed from scratch to be ideal for touch screens. The platforming (or “stunt”) segments require precise timing, similar to Elite Beat Agents but with an emphasis on visual timing instead of musical rhythm. Both of these mechanics are brought together by the SP bar, which allows you to execute gesture-based special moves like flame kicks, health restoration, and even morphing your character’s arm into a silver spike to impale foes.

The Executive uses Riverman Media’s proprietary animation system to bring to life its large, hand-drawn 2D sprites with an unprecedented amount of smoothness and detail. The Executive represents the pinnacle of Riverman Media’s research and development into new 2D graphics technology.

User Reviews

Reviewers praise The Executive for its fun, unique combat, moody art, and deep, multi-class progression, along with strong value for the upfront price. However, many reports cite crashes and stability issues across devices, plus control responsiveness and potential repetitiveness after long sessions. Some also note sporadic performance bumps during cinematics. Overall, it’s a distinctive, content-rich beat-’em-up that shines when it runs smoothly but is hampered by stability and control quirks on certain devices.
Pros
  • Engaging, rewarding combat with a unique mechanic and satisfying progression.
  • Striking art direction and mood, with a distinctive comic-book vibe and solid music.
  • Deep, varied content and progression across multiple classes (Intern/Manager/Executive) plus upgrades, mining, and a business system.
  • Great value: upfront price with no ads or ridiculous IAPs, and many reviews feel the game is worth the cost.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and compatibility issues across multiple devices (iPhone 6s+/7, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Pro) and OS versions.
  • Controls can be hard to master or occasionally unresponsive, affecting gameplay flow.
  • Gameplay can feel repetitive or dull after extended play for some users.
  • Occasional performance hiccups during cinematics or on older devices (e.g., skips/loads) that disrupt play.

Eight years ago, I downloaded this app to kill some time while the electricity was out after a bad storm. Even though I played it with the brightness on the lowest possible setting to converse battery, I was enamored. Sure, it took a huge learning curve, but once that was accomplished and the game mechanics started to make sense, I could not put it down. Cut to present day and this game pops into my head randomly, and after some investigating, I discovered the name and redownloaded. Again, I had to relearn everything but it was just as satisfying as I remember. I’ve been going through some rough times lately and been hit some pretty dark things; but this game has been a wonderful distraction. I remember around this time I initially downloaded it that there were rumors of a sequel or spiritual successor. Unfortunately it seems that never panned out. It’s too bad because this was a rare case of a game definitely worth the asking price. If I could have, I would have definitely bought it all over again. I wish the developers nothing but luck and success in whatever endeavors they’re currently involved in—and hopefully some follow up may come someday… tl;dr - this game is absolutely amazing and definitely not light on gameplay. Would recommend a thousand times over

I redownloaded this game after having played it years ago and it is still a lot of fun. Straightforward combat that comes in very manageable doses while still rewarding the player with that fist pump worthy moment of victory.
