User Reviews

Beeminder’s iOS app is a strong motivational companion when used with its web service, with solid cross-platform integrations and a proven track record for long-term habit formation. However, it often falls short on in-app functionality and reliability: core setup occurs on the web, syncing can be flaky, the app can crash or show login issues, and some features like widgets are missing. Overall, it’s transformative for many users despite notable reliability caveats.
Pros
  • Motivation and accountability through financial penalties (loss aversion) and the 'paying is not punishment' concept, which many users find effective.
  • Effective companion to Beeminder's web service with up-to-date data and broad integrations (Apple Health, Fitbit, Toggl, APIs), allowing cross‑platform progress tracking.
  • Long-term usefulness and transformative impact; users report years of use and life improvements, supported by a responsive team and community.
  • Clean, easy-to-use interface with flexible data-entry options and support for numerous data sources and APIs.
Cons
  • Core setup, payments, and goal management must be done on the website rather than in the iOS app, limiting in-app functionality.
  • Syncing/integration reliability issues (Apple Health, Fitbit, Toggl) can lead to false derailments or delayed data updates.
  • App reliability problems exist (login issues, blank screens, crashes, or the app failing to open).
  • Missing in-app features (e.g., widgets) and some UX gaps (e.g., share button removal, non-useful home menu) that push users to the website for details.

Nice idea, very poor execution. Signing up, payment, add/manage goals, all have to be done on their website, you can’t do it on the app.

I honestly don’t know what I’d do without Beeminder. (Actually, I do, because I didn’t have it for 28 of my 29 years on this earth, and I found it way harder to get stuff done.) While the mobile app struggles a bit with refreshing data that is autogenerated from sources like Gmail and Toggl, it’s a helpful companion that I use mostly early in the day to check what goals I need to focus on that day. The full site is better, in my opinion, but I know the developers are working hard, so I’ll be patient, as I’m sure I’ll be using Beeminder for the rest of my life. NOTE: if you have ADHD, this app is a must-have!
