User Reviews

Ancient Faith delivers rich Orthodox podcast and radio content, but the app is plagued by serious reliability issues. Users frequently report crashes, repeated sign-ins, and progress not saving, making it hard to resume listening. Streaming and radio playback can cut out, especially across network changes or when the app runs in the background. Updates often remove or break core features like continue listening and favorites, and some content updates are irregular. Many reviewers praise the content and the cleaner UI, but the inconsistencies and bugs overshadow the app’s value.
Pros
  • Rich, high-quality Orthodox content across podcasts and readings.
  • Wide breadth of content and a variety of Orthodox material available in one app.
  • Radio content is top-notch and a key draw for listeners.
  • The user interface has become more modern and cleaner in recent updates.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability; the app freezes and stops playback.
  • Login persistence issues; you have to log in repeatedly and progress is not saved.
  • Playback progress often isn’t saved or cannot be resumed from where you left off.
  • Streaming reliability issues: radio playback often cuts out or stops, and background streaming is broken; switching between cellular and Wi-Fi disrupts playback.
  • Updates have removed or broken core features (continue listening, favorites), led to broken links, or inconsistent episode release schedules.

Really amazing content and app. I can’t believe it has so many bad reviews.. it’s a free app for our faith how can you all be so critical.

The content is always top notch but the app is very buggy. It really needs work. I am constantly logged out and half the time the podcasts will not load. I try refreshing, closing it out and even reinstalling and that doesn’t make a bit of difference. Integration with the desktop AFR website is sorely needed. To be able to save or bookmark from the website and have it saved in the app, be able to have progress on one device be accessed on the other would be great.

Great idea. Poor execution. First of all, they added a login screen, which is nice because it allows you to save your favorite podcasts, just like the standard podcast apps. Except that it forgets your login and you have to login again. It has a daily bread section, which is awesome, except you have to play each one individually and can't just play your daily readings and saints of the day in one go. What's the point of this app? What gap in the field of podcast apps is it trying to fill? Why is everything orthodox people do so poorly executed and chaotic? We're in the west now.
