ICU Trials by ClinCalc

Summarized landmark ICU trials

Features & Capabilities

ICU Trials by ClinCalc is a quick pocket reference for both novice and seasoned critical care clinicians. It does not replace full manuscripts; instead it serves as a fast reference and learning tool for landmark ICU trials across specialties. Each entry includes a one-liner and key points—such as inclusion/exclusion criteria, treatment protocols, pivotal endpoints, key findings, and expert commentary on subgroup analyses or limitations.

A Share Trial feature lets you send PubMed links with a concise summary to colleagues. The database currently features 150+ landmark trials across ARDS, cardiac arrest, DVT/PE, delirium, glycemic control, heart failure, hemorrhage, meningitis, nephroprotection, nutrition, pneumonia, sedation, seizures, sepsis/shock, spinal cord injury, stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and more with ongoing additions. Created and maintained by Sean P. Kane, PharmD, BCPS, with clinical pharmacology and IT background.

User Reviews

Users praise ICU Trials by ClinCalc as a concise, searchable reference for ICU trials and EBM, especially useful during rounds, teaching, and exam prep. The key strengths are quick access and clear summaries. Recurrent drawbacks focus on update frequency and lack of features to track progress across devices (no favorites/sync). UI criticisms are limited, with most reviews focused on content breadth and reliability.
Pros
  • Fast, quick reference to EBM and landmark ICU trials.
  • Strong for ICU rounds and teaching; bedside use.
  • Concise summaries of landmark ICU trials (100+ with author/year).
  • Helpful for exam preparation and resident education; presented professionally.
Cons
  • Update frequency and coverage: users want more frequent updates and inclusion of important trials.
  • No favorites and cross-device sync: cannot mark read items or sync across iPad/iPhone, making tracking harder.

This App is good but can be even better if Key Observational Studies are added ... AJRCCM Year in Review would work as a source of this.

I love this app. I appreciate the fact that you can search by disease. Wish it was updated more often. I recommend it to anyone working g in the ICU space.

Nice application with nice articles. Give you the name the author and the year. Key points are nice but lacking the criticism. Link to the full article. But no possibility to mark so I am using the favourite mark to know what I read in iphone. Again I cant found this mark in the Ipad due to lack of sync facility. I cant read in landscape mode in the Ipad neither the iPhone. I am using this for the ICU care articles and i will keep using. Best in the store.
