User Reviews

Shot Lister helps plan shoot days, organize shots, and sync with Scriptation for a cohesive director workflow, earning praise for ease of use and on-set efficiency. Repeated drawbacks include pricing/edit gating, recurring bugs and data-migration problems, and weak import/export workflows that limit field usability. Users seek stability, more accessible features without prohibitive subscriptions, and improved editing tools like multi-select and undo to meet professional production needs.
Pros
  • Great for planning shoot days and organizing shots, acts as a lifesaver and time-saver on set.
  • Easy to navigate and intuitive, making it simple to organize complex shot lists.
  • Scriptation integration and cross-app syncing keeps script changes aligned with shot lists.
  • Widely used by professionals and trusted for preproduction and on-set workflow.
Cons
  • Subscription pricing and Pro gating are frequently criticized, with annual fees and perceived 'money grab' concerns.
  • Bugs and instability including crashes, migration issues, and occasional data loss, with slow or unresponsive support.
  • Import/Export workflows are clunky and limited (CSV import issues, Dropbox/email export quirks, and poor interoperability).
  • Lack of bulk actions/multi-select and no undo hinder editing and workflow on large shoots.

Decent product! Id love if you could add proper formatting for custom fields (it aligns top-left instead of Center-Center) and if you could add a drop-down option for custom fields too. And the dream would be to visually edit a script to mark Scenes and shots and then import that into the program.

I, and I bet the majority of filmmakers out there, would gladly pay a one-time purchase price for this, and even pay a yearly/every other year upgrade price for new, useful features but this dev, like to many others making professional software, has decided that to resort to rent-seeking like Adobe, Avid, and now Apple Themselves. And at the end of the day, even if I were okay with all that, what am I greeted with when I first open the app? Another account, another privacy policy, another Terms-of-Service. More chances to get exposed in a data breach or get sold to advertisers when the company gets bought out or decides it’s not making enough money. You know what the advantages of pen and paper shot lists are? They don’t charge me monthly to own nothing.
