Features & Capabilities

The official Wine & Spirit Education Trust game app.

If you are a wine lover and looking for a fun way to test your knowledge - this app is for you!

Simply tap the screen where you think each wine should be placed, zoom in and release to confirm when you are happy with your selection.

You will be presented with a number of levels increasing in complexity to test your knowledge of wine and where it is produced around the world.

There is a time limit per level, with ten wines to try and place correctly.

The levels you will be faced with ask you to decide which country, region or sub-region the wine comes from.

The app features additional information on all the regions and grape varieties you have been faced with placing in the game, so as well as testing your knowledge, you can extend it! There are direct links back to the WSET website for more information on all the qualifications WSET offers worldwide.

Have fun and good luck!

User Reviews

Users praise WSET Wine Game as a fun, fast-paced tool that effectively helps memorize wine regions and reinforces geography knowledge. It’s seen as a strong revision aid for learners and professionals. However, recurring issues include a non-intuitive, clunky map UI with difficult navigation and zoom, slow performance, and a timer that feels restrictive. Many want more content and regions, longer or untimed play, better readability of labels, and options like end-of-round feedback and notes. Several users also desire platform improvements (iPad, pinch-zoom).
Pros
  • Fun, fast-paced game that makes learning wine regions engaging.
  • Effective for memorization and reinforcing geography/region knowledge.
  • Useful revision tool for ongoing wine education.
  • Appeals to a broad audience, from professionals to casual learners.
Cons
  • Map UI is unintuitive and navigation/zoom is difficult.
  • Time limits are too restrictive; players want untimed mode or more time.
  • Performance issues: slow/laggy and feels outdated.
  • Content breadth is limited; need more regions, updates, and features like end-of-round feedback and notes.

A good app to strengthen geography recognition, though the format doesn’t help for too much more than that. Unfortunately the 60 time frame is a bit short with the map navigation. Would happily pay a few dollars or subscription to have this a more fleshed out program. Overall fun and useful in a flash card way.

The map UI isn’t intuitive and the whole app is slow and laggy in general. I think this is a case where an older app just hasn’t aged well, an update would be great!

I love the idea of this, and I think I could learn a lot from it, but there’s just not enough time to think and tap in and out of maps. With a little longer times available this could be such a useful tool. As it is, it’s just really annoying and a waste of time.
