User Reviews

RealMyst on iOS largely delivers a faithful Myst experience with strong puzzles and atmosphere, aided by a well-regarded port and graphics. The addition of the Rime age and true 3D navigation are frequently cited positives, along with nostalgic appeal for longtime Myst fans. However, reviewers repeatedly report enduring audio bugs or missing sound, awkward touch controls and small interaction hotspots that can cause motion sickness, and very dark areas with insufficient lighting options. There are also several glitches that impede progression, such as soft-locks and area-specific blocks. Overall, it's a strong pick for fans despite notable technical drawbacks.
Pros
  • Nostalgia and faithful Myst experience with solid puzzles and atmosphere.
  • Excellent iOS port with polished interface and graphics.
  • True 3D movement and improved navigation over the original.
  • Inclusion of the Rime age adds meaningful content.
  • Puzzles and atmosphere generally hold up well for fans.
Cons
  • Audio issues: missing sound or persistent audio bugs.
  • Awkward touch controls and navigation; small interaction hotspots and occasional motion sickness.
  • Very dark scenes with limited visibility and lack of a reliable lighting option.
  • Several glitches that impede progression (soft locks, blockers).

Fine, until fatal soft lock bug in selenic age. Since this is an old port, I do not expect patches to be forthcoming. Sad I threw $ away, but I guess I should have known.

And….I got stuck frequently. I had to use online walkthroughs to make it through the whole game. I prefer games that at least give you hints so you don’t have to go online and fine the whole answer. I always wanted to play this since I first saw it back in 1993 and couldn’t figure out what to do back then lol. I didn’t grow up with PC games so maybe thats a disadvantage to figuring this one out. I’ve played a lot of puzzle games and highly recommend the Forever Lost series! (Actually all their games are great) I also enjoyed Midnight Girl.
