Since 1949, LFI – Leica Fotografie International has been established as an independent magazine for the field of Leica photography, as well as the renowned go-to publication for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge, understanding and exposure to all things Leica.

Eight times a year, LFI presents the work of leading Leica photographers in extensive portfolio features. The magazine also offers in-depth test reports of new products, insightful technical articles on both digital and analogue photography, practical advice, exclusive reportages, and much more.

The accompanying App enables access to previous LFI issues, selected areas of the LFI Gallery, the LFI Shop as well as continuous updates and news from the world of photography. Users praise LFI for its high-quality photography and expansive archive (back to 2004) with galleries and related content. But recurring issues include slow loading and missing images, unreliable subscription verification and restore purchases, crashes, an intrusive navigation bar, and difficulties accessing already-purchased or print-subscription content. Cross-device support is limited. When the app functions, it delivers excellent image quality and value; otherwise reliability issues significantly hinder the experience.

Intrusive navigation bar that pops up and covers content (difficult to disable).
Difficulty accessing already-purchased content or print-subscription issues; some issues disappear or require re-download; cross-device issues.

Update: I have both the digital and print subscription to the LFI Magazine. With the digital subscription, even when logged on, it still has the red box in the middle of the page that offers users a chance to purchase the copy, even if you’re logged on under the account you signed up for the subscription. You have to go through the magazine with the box covering up texts and images. It’s bizarre. Previous review: Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn’t. It doesn’t load the magazines in full or the images in them. It has nothing to do with your connection. I’m not sure this is even an active app since Leica has invested more developers into their Leica LUX and Leica FOTOS. It’s disappointing.

What is the worth of an app for photography if it doesn’t or can’t display images … none of the galleries work. Use to love this app but lately there’s no reason to have it.
