User Reviews

Overall, reviewers praise Color Viewfinder for helping generate and organize color palettes and for features like hex codes, layout options, and sharing capabilities. The main complaints cluster around core usability and monetization: the color picker often misses the intended color, saving swatches is locked behind a pro upgrade, and some users report flaky or missing pro purchases and restore options. Additional issues include low export image quality and a restriction to square crops, which hinders workflows for vertical or horizontal photos.
Pros
  • Very useful for generating and refining color palettes for art, crafts, and design.
  • Nice layout options and an intuitive UI that helps manage swatches.
  • Hex codes are available and the app can help colorblind users analyze colors.
  • Palette export/sharing to other apps (e.g., Procreate) enables workflow integration.
  • Free version offers substantial functionality, making it a helpful starting point.
Cons
  • Color picker accuracy is poor; it often selects a color different from the one you point at.
  • Saving and managing colors is gated behind Pro; users report being unable to save swatches and being prompted to upgrade.
  • Pro purchases and restore purchases are flaky; watermark removal may not persist after reinstall, and restoration options are unclear.
  • Exported images/palettes can be low quality or blurry when saved or shared.
  • Cropping is restricted to square images, forcing users to crop or distort their photos and preventing vertical/horizontal workflows.

When selecting add color, the color picker goes to some random spot on the picture, not in any way reflecting where my finger is pointing! So hard to pick the color I want. Otherwise, I really love the app; I use it for generating color palettes for weaving projects.

Will there be any future options for a custom water mark or accessibility to export the hex code as a csv file?

I love this app, would love to see the ability to set how many swatches as a default in the app. I do have the pro version and would really like to tell the app to create 30 swatches this would enable me to use a full palette in the app Procreate. And another addition would be a way to export the palette directly into Procreate.
