Overview

Features & Capabilities

Pro Compass recreates the look of a classic pocket compass while leveraging modern technology. It uses OpenGL to render a 3D floating compass and offers nine modes (direct read, traditional, rosette) with options to display degrees, quads, or mils. Magnetic and true directions are shown together, with a rotating true ring auto-adjusted for local declination. Sun and Moon positions are marked on the rings and updated continuously. Location and altitude readouts support decimal, DMS, UTM, and MGRS, and a Datum Pack with 230+ datums expands regional coverage. A built-in two-axis inclinometer provides two bubble levels and angle readouts for slopes, sight lines, and geological measurements. Pro Compass also supports a Pro Compass for Apple Watch, extending the experience to watchOS.

In addition to its core navigation tools, Pro Compass includes an inclinometer with bubble levels and multiple readouts, and rosette display options. The app supports multiple coordinate formats and expansive datum coverage for field use. An important accuracy note reminds users that readings come from the device magnetometer and can be affected by nearby electronics; users are advised to operate away from interference for best results.

User Reviews

Pro Compass is praised for dual north readings, ease of use, field-ready accuracy with datum packs, and multitool features (inclinometer/level). It’s often viewed as superior to the built-in compass and valuable for professionals. However, several users report heading inaccuracies, and some note map/location issues and slower map loading.
Pros
  • Shows true north and magnetic north simultaneously with variation.
  • Easy to use with a clean, well-designed interface and highly functional.
  • Professional-grade accuracy for field use and supports datum packs to improve precision.
  • Inclinometer/level capability and simultaneous compass/level use.
  • Strong replacement for the built-in compass and offers bundle value.
Cons
  • Heading readings can be inaccurate or drift, including reports of large errors (up to +/- 35 degrees).
  • Maps/location can be inaccurate, with instances of being shown in the wrong continent or place.
  • Map loading can be slow and cause misplacement or delays.

Compass looks good and seems to function well as a compass. But I was expecting to be able to view and edit the waypoints I saved in the Watch App on my iPhone since both apps have the same name from the same developer. Was let down.

Every time I place it on the same fixed edge I get a different direction. Not accurate at all . Same problem I have with the one that was on my phone . Am I missing something?
