User Reviews

Dragon Story has a loyal, nostalgic community and a rich dragon-breeding world with deep customization and social play. However, players consistently report technical issues (glitches, crashes, slow loads, progress loss), intrusive ads, monetization pressure, and login/access problems that hinder long-term enjoyment.
Pros
  • Nostalgic, long-running community that enjoys the game for its familiarity and addictive loop
  • Huge variety of dragons to breed and collect, with deep breeding mechanics
  • Strong social features including neighbors, visiting, gifts, and events that keep players connected
  • Engaging events and leaderboard-based challenges that offer ongoing goals
  • Creative island/habitat customization that lets players design unique layouts
Cons
  • Frequent glitches, crashes, freezes, and progress loss that disrupt gameplay
  • Long loading times and slow in-game processing causing delays in play
  • Intrusive ads that disrupt gameplay and are hard to skip
  • Perceived pay-to-win feel with expensive in-game currency (gold) and monetization pressure
  • Login/offline access issues and unreliable server behavior that prevent consistent play

I remember playing this game back in the early 2000s, I was like four or five playing this on my mom’s phone, then I remember re-downloading this at some point when I was 14 or 15 and playing it again. Now we fast forward to today where I’m 21 and I’ve re-downloaded the app about two or three days ago, and I love it, but I do have some critiques I need to give. It’s primarily three, 1, everything is so expensive: like I get things being super cheap, but with the amount of money, your dragons give you and how money generation works some dragons, heck even food is expensive. Don’t even get me started on upgrading buildings, why does it cost 30,000 to upgrade a farm? 2, no way to make back gold. You start off with a little bit of gold, only enough for one super breed & a single fairy dragon evolution in instant complete. And looking through some of the harder to get/dragons that require gold to purchase, not a single one gives you gold in turn, the only way you can get gold in this game is if you spend your money, don’t get me wrong. I understand that at the time this is probably one of the few ways you could survive, but it does feel a little unfair, especially coming from Dragon Vale, where there are two separate species/dragon types that can give you the speed up currency (gems) 3. It takes a long time to level up. The only way you can really level up is through doing quests, feeding, breeding, hatching, and evolving dragons does not grant XP, which feels kind of disappointing. Other than these critiques, I have everything else about the game is really fun especially the art style. I do hope that the game gets updated soon since from what I understand it’s been nine months since the last update.

Very bad game. Developers haven’t made any substantial changes for over a decade. You aren’t getting any rewards from any events unless you shell out at least $100 in micro-transactions. You’re bombarded with AT LEAST 5 pop-ups every time you open the game. Dragons, animations, and SFX are all lazy and recycled. Decided to revisit a game I played in my childhood and was deeply disappointed. Pass.
